Word bank — more words than blanks
A genre is not a fixed box. It is a system of shared , recognisable production choices, and the knowledge an audience brings. Steve Neale argued that genres work by balancing — the familiar features that let us recognise what we are watching — against , the variation that stops us getting bored. Because no single text carries every defining feature, Daniel Chandler describes genre membership as a resemblance: texts overlap like relatives rather than matching a checklist. A programme like Outlast is therefore a within the genre, not the genre itself.
The paragraph passages are the important ones
Most students can define a convention. Far fewer can write the sentence that explains what it does to an audience. In those passages the blanks are never content words — they are constructs, manufactures, because, what this suggests. That vocabulary is the difference between bands.
